Polished concrete, simen kilat or an overlay: what is the difference?
Polished concrete is a slab ground and polished; simen kilat is a cement screed trowelled smooth and shiny on site; an overlay is a thin, coloured concrete layer laid over the floor you already have. All three give the grey mineral look, but only the overlay goes over tiles without breaking them out.
That is why the overlay suits renovations in condos, shops and cafés: the old floor stays, the level rises by only millimetres, and the colour and aggregate are chosen on a sample. Where a new floor is laid, IFS’s polished concrete slab, which IFS states at a minimum of 25 mm, is the alternative.
