Hospital, clinic and care home floors in Malaysia, specified by the maker

Hospital, clinic and care home flooring in Malaysia: washable floors and walls, wet rooms and ramps, laid in occupied buildings by authorised applicators.

We reply within one working day, Monday to Friday.

Rayson-authorised applicators in Johor, Kuala Lumpur and the Klang Valley, and Penang. Materials and data sheets nationwide.

What is the best floor for hospital and clinic service areas?

A seamless, solvent-free resin floor that cleans easily and can be laid in an occupied building: Rayson specifies LevelShield SL120 or FloorGuard R50 in corridors and service areas, UraForce WB58 on walls, PurScreed PC70 in kitchens and laundries, and SealForce WB20 under the tiles in wet rooms.

Before you choose

What do the clinic regulations ask of floors and walls?

Regulations 38 and 39 of the Private Healthcare Facilities and Services (Private Medical Clinics or Private Dental Clinics) Regulations 2006, as MOH’s floor-plan checklist sets them out, ask for floor finishes that are non-toxic, non-skid, easily cleaned and suited to each room, and for wall surfaces that are non-toxic, easily cleaned, smooth and washable, with a waterproof finish above the splash line where there is splash or spray.

The checklist also rules out carpet on stairs, in toilets and bathrooms and in a surgical room. A seamless floor, textured where it gets wet, and a smooth, washable wall coating such as UraForce WB58 are the usual answers; the specification confirms each room.

Can the work be done while the building is in use?

Yes, in sections. PrimeBond E20, FloorGuard R50 and LevelShield SL120 are solvent-free and UraForce WB58 is water-based, so none brings solvent odour into the building. Each section is closed, laid and cured before it reopens, in an order agreed with the facility team.

SL120 takes foot traffic after about 18 hours at 30 °C; trolleys and beds wait for the cure the specification sets.

What about toilets, showers and sluice rooms?

They are waterproofed under the tiles with SealForce WB20, a wet-area membrane that its data sheet says keeps its strength after heat ageing and immersion in hypochlorite, ammonia and dilute acid, the chemistry of the cleaners used in those rooms.

Two coats go down at 0.4 mm wet film each, and a ponding test proves the film before the tile bed goes back.

What about kitchens, laundries and ramps?

Kitchens and laundries with hot water, steam and daily washdown take PurScreed PC70 polyurethane-cement at 1.5 to 3 mm, the screed the epoxy data sheets refer hot washdown to. Ramps and walkways take GripSafe AP12, a quartz anti-slip texture in one product.

Rayson publishes no measured slip rating yet, so the texture is agreed in the specification and the finished floor is checked wet before handover. In a care home, the bathrooms, the corridors to them and the ramps are the places to start.

A first guide. The specification follows the facility’s cleaning regime and its infection-control requirements.

What you see

The signs

  • Cracked tiles and open grout in corridors and service areas
  • Water stains on ceilings below toilets and showers
  • Slippery ramps and bathroom floors
  • Worn floors along trolley routes and at the lifts
Why it happens

The usual causes

  • Tiles and grout under trolleys, cleaning machines and daily mopping
  • Wet rooms with no membrane under the tiles
  • Smooth finishes on ramps and in bathrooms
How the job runs

From three photos to a finished job

  1. Survey the building

The zones, what comes up, moisture and bond tests, the wet rooms, and the hours each area can close.

  2. Specification from the maker

System by zone, wet-room membrane, ramp texture and the data sheets, in writing, with the night or weekend programme.

  3. Prepare and lay

Old finishes removed, repairs, primer, then each system at the data-sheet build; WB20 ponding-tested before tiling.

  4. Cure, check, hand over

Areas reopened when the specification allows; ramps and bathrooms checked wet; data sheets in your file.

What to send

Three photos are enough for a first quotation

  1. A corridor or service area, wide
  2. The worst patch and a wet room or ramp, close
  3. Area in sq ft per zone, the building type, and when each area can close

What it costs

What does hospital and clinic flooring cost in Malaysia?

Per square foot, quoted after a site survey. Five things decide it: the area by zone, what comes up (old tiles, vinyl or coatings), the wet rooms to waterproof, the ramps and details, and the night or weekend programme around patients and residents. Rayson publishes no price list; contractors with their own crews can buy the systems direct.

Who stands behind the job

  • Rayson makes the materials, writes the specification and warrants the material.
  • The Rayson-authorised applicator for your area an independent company authorised by Rayson, contracts with you, inspects, quotes, installs and warrants the workmanship.
  • Rayson is not the installer and is not a party to the installation contract. Two warranties, two companies.

The Rayson difference

An installer buys whatever is on the shelf. A Rayson-authorised applicator installs what Rayson makes.

01

The maker writes the specification

The system is specified by the company that makes the material, and installed by an independent applicator Rayson has authorised, not chosen from whatever a supplier had on the shelf that week.

02

A data sheet for every layer

Every Rayson material on your floor or roof has a published technical data sheet. You can read what went in, and so can your consultant.

03

Two warranties, two companies

Rayson warrants the material as its maker. The authorised applicator, an independent company that contracts with you, warrants the workmanship. Each warranty is issued by the company responsible for it.

04

Same materials on both sides of the Causeway

The products, data sheets and application methods are the ones Rayson publishes in Singapore. Nothing is rebadged for Malaysia.

05

Materials direct, for your own crew

Contractors and facility teams buy the same materials direct from the maker, with application guidance. The applicator is there when you want the job done for you.

The practical details

Questions people ask

Do you work in care homes as well as hospitals?

Yes: hospitals, clinics, care homes and day-care centres. The same systems apply; in a care home the work is planned around the residents’ routine, room by room.

Do the floors have antibacterial additives?

No. Rayson makes no antibacterial claim for these systems. What they give is a seamless surface with no grout lines, which the facility’s cleaning regime can keep clean.

What about the lobby and reception?

Front-of-house can take a decorative floor: IFS Japanese terrazzo, honed for grip, laid on a base prepared with Rayson materials. It is an IFS product under IFS’s own terms, chosen on a sample board. Clinical and service areas stay on the Rayson systems above.

Who gives the warranty?

Rayson warrants the materials as their maker; the Rayson-authorised applicator that lays the floor warrants its workmanship. Both are written into the quotation.
