What is stone carpet?

Stone carpet is small quartz or marble pebbles bound in resin and trowelled into a seamless, porous, slip-resistant surface for porches, paths and pool surrounds. In Johor Bahru, IFS stone carpet goes over Rayson SealForce RC40 wherever there is a room below, laid by a Rayson-authorised applicator.

Before you choose

Is stone carpet waterproof?

No. Stone carpet is porous by design, so water drains through it. Wherever there is a room below, such as a porch roof or a balcony, Rayson SealForce RC40 goes underneath and is tested before the stone carpet.

The resin binds the pebbles to each other, not the cracks of the slab underneath, so the membrane does the waterproofing and the stone carpet gives the finish and the grip. On paths laid on the ground, the falls and the drains are checked so water leaves the surface.

Is stone carpet slippery?

Stone carpet is chosen for its grip: the pebbles give a textured, porous surface that water drains through, which is why it is laid around pools and on porches and paths. IFS lists slip resistance among its advantages.

The pebble size and the finish are chosen on the sample board; a finer pebble feels smoother underfoot and is kinder to bare feet around a pool.

Can cars drive on stone carpet?

On a car porch, yes, at the thickness the sample confirms. Heavy vehicles and tyres turning on a driveway need a thicker build and a discussion first.

Tyres turning on the spot wear any resin-bound surface fastest, so the applicator sets the thickness and the pebble size for the traffic, and details the edges, the steps and the drains.

How do you clean stone carpet?

Brush and rinse it, and wash it at low pressure where the system allows, so the pores stay open. Oil and leaf stains are cleaned early; the cleaning regime is explained at handover.

Easy maintenance is one of the advantages IFS lists. Blocked pores stop water draining, so leaves and sand are swept off rather than left to settle into the surface.

What you see

The signs

  • A car porch or driveway you want to look finished
  • A balcony or porch roof over a room that must stay dry
  • A pool deck or garden path that is slippery or plain
  • Bare concrete that stains and cracks
Why it happens

The usual causes

  • Stone carpet laid straight on a porch roof with no membrane, so the room below leaks
  • A resin that yellows or lets the pebbles loosen
  • A base that was never cleaned or primed
How the job runs

From three photos to a finished job

  1. Check what is below

If there is a room under the surface, it is waterproofed with RC40 and tested before any finish.

  2. Prepare and prime

Cleaning, repairs, falls checked, E20 primer where the system calls for it.

  3. Lay the stone carpet

IFS pebbles and resin mixed and trowelled to an even thickness, edges and drains detailed.

  4. Cure and hand over

Kept off until cured; the cleaning regime explained so the pores stay open.

What to send

Three photos are enough for a first quotation

  1. The whole area, wide
  2. The edge, drain or threshold, close
  3. What is under the surface: ground, or a room

What it costs

What does stone carpet cost in Johor Bahru?

Per square foot, quoted after inspection. Five things decide it: the area, whether a room below needs SealForce RC40 first, the pebble type and colour, the thickness for car traffic, and the edges, steps and drains. Waterproofing a porch roof first is its own step and its own price. Rayson publishes no price list.

The Rayson difference

An installer buys whatever is on the shelf. A Rayson-authorised applicator installs what Rayson makes.

01

The maker writes the specification

The system is specified by the company that makes the material, and installed by an independent applicator Rayson has authorised, not chosen from whatever a supplier had on the shelf that week.

02

A data sheet for every layer

Every Rayson material on your floor or roof has a published technical data sheet. You can read what went in, and so can your consultant.

03

Two warranties, two companies

Rayson warrants the material as its maker. The authorised applicator, an independent company that contracts with you, warrants the workmanship. Each warranty is issued by the company responsible for it.

04

Same materials on both sides of the Causeway

The products, data sheets and application methods are the ones Rayson publishes in Singapore. Nothing is rebadged for Malaysia.

05

Materials direct, for your own crew

Contractors and facility teams buy the same materials direct from the maker, with application guidance. The applicator is there when you want the job done for you.

The practical details

Questions people ask

Whose product is it?

IFS stone carpet comes from Industrial Floor & Systems Pte. Ltd (IFS): quartz or marble pebbles with a resin binder, in many types and colours, and it carries IFS’s own terms. The membrane and primer under it are Rayson’s, and the combined build-up is confirmed on a sample board before your job.

Can stone carpet go around a swimming pool?

Yes, pool surrounds are a common use because the surface drains and grips. Where the deck sits over a room or a plant room, it is waterproofed first, and the pool edge and the drains are detailed.

How long does a stone carpet job take?

Several working days, depending on whether waterproofing and its test come first, then the stone carpet, then the cure before anyone walks or drives on it. The applicator sets out the programme in the quotation.

Who gives the warranty?

Rayson warrants its membrane and primer as their maker; IFS’s terms cover the stone carpet; the Rayson-authorised applicator warrants the workmanship. All three are written into the quotation.
