PU flooring in Malaysia: PU-cement screeds and topcoats

PU flooring in Malaysia: PurScreed PC70 PU-cement screed for hot, wet and chemical floors, and UraForce WB58 topcoat for lasting colour. Laid or sold direct.

We reply within one working day, Monday to Friday.

Rayson-authorised applicators in Johor, Kuala Lumpur and the Klang Valley, and Penang. Materials and data sheets nationwide.

What is PU flooring?

PU flooring is a polyurethane resin floor. In industry it usually means a 1.5 to 3 mm PU-cement screed for hot, wet and chemical areas, such as Rayson PurScreed PC70; it can also mean a thin polyurethane topcoat, such as UraForce WB58, that keeps a floor’s colour in daylight.

Before you choose

PU-cement or epoxy: which floor do I need?

PU-cement where it is hot and wet: cooking lines, kettles, hot washdown, steam and regular chemical cleaning take PurScreed PC70. Epoxy where it stays dry or is only rinsed cold: stores, packing, dispatch and assembly take FloorGuard R50 or LevelShield SL120, at lower cost.

Most food and chemical plants need both, side by side, with the junction between them detailed. The survey records your washdown temperatures and chemicals, and the specification states each system’s limits in writing.

How thick is a PU-cement floor?

PurScreed PC70 is laid at 1.5 to 3 mm as a self-smoothing screed, using about 1.8 kg/m² of material per millimetre. Heavier mechanical duty sits at the top of that range, and a layered build adds a further PC70 wear coat for the traffic.

Like any thin floor, it follows the slab. Where water must run to the drains, the falls are built into a screed first, and the coves at the walls and the edges at drains and plinths are detailed before the PC70 goes down.

Can PU flooring take hot washdown?

PU-cement is the industry’s usual answer for hot wash-down zones, and the PC70 data sheet lists wash-down and processing floors. Its limits depend on your wash-down regime, so Rayson confirms them for your process, in writing, before the floor is specified.

Tell Rayson the water or steam temperature, how often the floor is washed and which chemicals are used; the specification states the limits of the system against them.

When is a polyurethane topcoat the right choice?

Where colour matters in daylight. Epoxy yellows under UV, so showrooms with glass frontage, offices, schools and retail take a coloured epoxy body coat under UraForce WB58, a water-based aliphatic polyurethane that stays non-yellowing and resists abrasion.

WB58 is a thin film, not a floor on its own: it needs a sound, sealed floor beneath and goes on in at least two coats by roller or brush. Water-based, it can go on in occupied buildings without solvent odour.

Where it suits

The floors it suits

  • Hot washdown, steam or cooking at floor level
  • Regular chemical cleaning or chemical spillage
  • An epoxy floor that keeps failing in the wet zones
  • A coloured floor that must not yellow in daylight
Where it goes wrong

Why these floors fail

  • Epoxy laid where hot washdown calls for PU-cement
  • A screed laid on a slab that was not ground, or wetter than 5%
  • Water left standing because the falls were never built in
  • The four PC70 parts mixed out of order, leaving unmixed powder that weakens the screed
  • A thin topcoat asked to carry heavy traffic with no body coat beneath
How the floor is laid

From the bare slab to a floor in service

  1. Survey the process and the slab

Washdown temperatures and chemicals, traffic, drains and falls, and moisture and bond tests. The concrete must be at least 28 days old, with moisture below 5%.

  2. Prepare and detail

Mechanical preparation to sound concrete, at least 1.5 N/mm² in a pull-off test; cracks and joints repaired; coves, drains, gullies and plinths detailed.

  3. Lay PurScreed PC70

The four parts combined in the order the method statement sets and mixed until uniform, then trowelled at 1.5 to 3 mm within a pot life of 15 to 20 minutes at 30 °C. Final cure in 7 days.

  4. Or finish with UraForce WB58

For a colour-stable floor: a coloured epoxy body coat, then at least two coats of WB58, mixed 9:1 by weight and used within 1 to 2 hours, with the edges stripe-coated by brush first.

What to send

Three details are enough for a system recommendation

  1. The floor, wide, and the wettest or most damaged area, close
  2. What happens on it: washdown temperatures, chemicals and traffic
  3. The area in sq ft or m², when sections can close, and the town

What it costs

What does PU flooring cost in Malaysia?

Laid by a Rayson-authorised applicator, PU flooring is quoted per square foot after a site survey. Five things decide it: the area, the slab and its repairs, the system and thickness for the duty, the coves, drains and junctions to detail, and the section programme around production. PU-cement costs more than epoxy and is specified where the duty needs it. Material ordered direct is quoted per order. Rayson publishes no price list.

Who stands behind the job

  • Rayson makes the materials, writes the specification and warrants the material. It supplies them direct in Malaysia through Epovex Coatings Sdn. Bhd., with the data sheets; supply and delivery are confirmed for each order.
  • The Rayson-authorised applicator for your area an independent company authorised by Rayson, contracts with you, inspects, quotes, lays the floor and warrants the workmanship. Or your own flooring contractor orders the material and lays it to the data sheet.
  • Rayson is not the installer and is not a party to the installation contract. Two warranties, two companies.

The Rayson difference

An installer buys whatever is on the shelf. A Rayson-authorised applicator installs what Rayson makes.

01

The maker writes the specification

The system is specified by the company that makes the material, and installed by an independent applicator Rayson has authorised, not chosen from whatever a supplier had on the shelf that week.

02

A data sheet for every layer

Every Rayson material on your floor or roof has a published technical data sheet. You can read what went in, and so can your consultant.

03

Two warranties, two companies

Rayson warrants the material as its maker. The authorised applicator, an independent company that contracts with you, warrants the workmanship. Each warranty is issued by the company responsible for it.

04

Same materials on both sides of the Causeway

The products, data sheets and application methods are the ones Rayson publishes in Singapore. Nothing is rebadged for Malaysia.

05

Materials direct, for your own crew

Contractors and facility teams buy the same materials direct from the maker, with application guidance. The applicator is there when you want the job done for you.

The practical details

Questions people ask

Can our own contractor lay PurScreed PC70?

Yes. Rayson sells PC70 and WB58 direct through Rayson Malaysia (Epovex Coatings Sdn. Bhd.), with the data sheets and application guidance; supply and delivery are confirmed for each order. A PU-cement screed is a trade job: four parts mixed in sequence and laid against a short pot life.

What colours does PU-cement come in?

PurScreed PC70 comes in light grey and green as standard; other colours on request, with lead time. It is chosen for the process rather than the look; where colour matters, the route is a coloured epoxy under a WB58 topcoat.

Can PU-cement go over our old epoxy floor?

Not as a rule. PC70 is laid on mechanically prepared concrete, so a failing coating is ground off first. Where an old floor is sound and well bonded, the bond test at the survey decides what stays.

Is PU flooring the same as PU varnish for timber floors?

No. Varnish for timber floors is a different product. Rayson’s PU floors are for concrete: a PU-cement screed laid on the slab, or a PU topcoat over a resin floor.

Do you do cold rooms and freezers?

Not yet. No Rayson data sheet covers freezer or cold-room floors, so Rayson does not quote them.

Who gives the warranty?

Rayson warrants the material as its maker when it is laid to the data sheet; the Rayson-authorised applicator warrants its workmanship, and both are written into the quotation. A floor laid by your own contractor carries that contractor’s workmanship terms.
